This portable air conditoner has two motors, one for the condenser and one for the evaporator which makes me a quieter unit.Condensation is distributed over the condenser. Keeps the compressor cooler and the unit more efficient.

The price : $380.00I purchased the Pac9R model (comes with remote) to supplement the central air conditioning for a 3rd floor room. This 3rd floor becomes extremely hot during the summer months because the central unit isn’t strong enough to cool it, and I needed something …

Bought this (actually the slightly different model from two years ago, PACR93) to cool off a hot upstairs bedroom. The fan and compressor unit are very loud, and its constant cycling on and off of the compressor creates a big “thump” that wakes me up …

I’ve had 2 PAC-9’s. I bought one to cool my computer room (3 servers in a closet). It worked fine for awhile and then went out. It took 2 months to find someone who WOULD work on it locally. They took it away and found a a broken refrig. line.

Then it broke again the next year. Since it was out of warranty, I had to buy a new one. The new one worked for a year, and the compressor went out. I had to call and again wait 2 months to get someone to work on it under warranty. Once fixed, it worked for another 3-4 months, then the refrig line went out again. Now it’s out of warranty (for the refrig line - not the compressor) again.

I’m off to Fry’s to get ANOTHER type of portable unit.

We bought this unit a couple days ago. It is our only option for A/C as we live in a condo and the home owners association will not let us have a window mounted unit.

We chose the WindChaser unit because it is relatively low priced for the features that it has.

Our experience has been negative. We planned on using the unit in our bedroom (about 15×15). The first problem is that it is LOUD. I didn’t expect it to be whisper quiet, but it is much louder than a typical window unit (like in a hotel). I turned it off in the middle of the night because the noise was keeping me awake. Normally I like a little white noise to fall asleep to, but this was way too much.

When I turned off the unit, I noticed that the room had not cooled down at all after 2 hours of operation.

On the plus side, I think the unit would work well in an office or space where noise isn’t a huge concern. The air that comes out is very cold, just too loud for the bedroom.

The unit blows nice cold air for about 5 minutes. Then it turns off and blows hot air. Upon reading and rereading the instructions to make sure I had connected everything properly I found out that the air conditioner doesn’t work when it’s over 90 degrees! After a few days of messing with the unit it was entirely full of condensation water. Granted we have high humidity here, but that’s exactly why we need A/C.

When returning the unit to Costco they gave me my money back without problems and told me it was not the first unit they received back. Maybe if you live in Alaska it’s a good choice, I wouldn’t recommend it for Hawaii.

This unit cools by exchanging heat to air that it blows out of the room through a window mounted vent… ergo, it sucks warm air in under the door. Will it cool the room? Yes, but it spends a lot of energy doing it and, after two years, my unit is kaput… The expensive kind of kaput.

Too expensive a solution for the NOISE, inefficiency and short lifespan. Just to compare, the wall-mounted unit in my bedroom is over ten years old and works GREAT!

Get a window unit, even if your HOA says not to… put it on a trolley and move it in and out as needed.

We love our windchaser pac 9. It works great to cool our office in the summer months. The unit it priced very good compared to the other 9000 btu unit on the market.

I purchased this unit from Costco because my condo association wasn’t going to fix our central air system before the start of summer.

According to the manufacturer’s booklet, the unit beep in alarm and is supposed to automatically shut off when the condensation tray fills. For the first month and a half, I never had an issue with the tray filling up, nor did it leak.

However, the unit I purchased was faulty. The water didn’t fill the tray - instead it leaked copious amounts of water through the bottom of the unit. I have now had to tear out my one year old carpet.

This thing is horrible. It brings my 350 sq. ft. apartment from about 100 degrees to 95 - if that. This is ridiculous.
