Air Conditioners Tips

Typical of the the Southwest, summer often comes a little earlier than the rest of the country. Given the speedy rise in temperatures, I set off looking for a nice air conditioner unit. Never having bought an a/c in my life, I was only familiar with the central HVAC system or the window style units. After having done some extensive research, I chanced upon ads and reviews of portable air conditioners. What a perfect concept! I rent my apartment and in no way wanted to install something permanent or needing extensive modification to the external walls. I could just pick up this unit (not literally) when I wanted to move and no sunk cost would be lost. After much indecision and comparison shopping, I came across the Whynter portable SS unit. I was first attracted to the very reasonable price of a stainless steel appliance and second, it looked quite a bit nicer than anything else available with the same performance price range. After three weeks of ownership, I am definitely sold on the portable a/c concept and more so on this unit. It is quite easy to put the slim fit window kit/exhaust in place and it’s almost plug and play after that. You can almost feel benefits within 15 or so minutes for a smaller sized room. I use this primarily in my home office/study and have had quite a few inquiries about it from guests and friends. Although somewhat cumbersome to carry up a flight of stairs, it is easily wheeled about on the level. All in all, a very good looking investment that rewards you with hours of comfort.

This unit arrived super fast which made me very happy for starters. It arrived via UPS in two days. I have had it for about 4 days and it have had it on for an average of 8 hours a day. It has work as advertised and has kept me and my cat very comfortable. It is mainly used in a semi-open den area but does not seem to diminish the cooling ability. I turn it on when the temperatures hit above 90 and turn it off when 70 or less. The room remains fairly constantly at my selected temperature and does not take too long to hit the comfort zone. and The stainless steel finish of the unit gives it a very pricey feel, but it is one of the more bargain priced items. The window installation kit has a handful of parts and is easy enough for a non-technical person to put up in less than 10 mins. It does appear slightly on the loud side when you first turn it on, but it is almost cooling to hear the roar of the air blowing. Very cool and very good looking overall. I don’t often recommend items unless it has really impressed me overall and this is one of them.
