By their very design, portable (roll around) air conditioners are a compromise. With the standard window unit, the condenser is outside the house, so the air used to remove the heat from the condenser is outside (the house). The problem with portable units is the condenser is inside the house (or the space you are attempting to cool), and the air used to blow across the condenser is taken from inside the house. This air, now hot, is fan forced out of the room through a flexible tube or duct. Only so much of a vacuum can develop inside the room before the air used to carry the heat out has to be replaced. So this replacement air will ultimately come from outside, and will most likely be warm/hot air. Because of this, a portable unit will never run as efficiently or cool as well as a window unit of the same (BTU) capacity.

I bought this one used on craigslist, after I had bought the older model the 1210E and was extremely happy with it.
I can’t have window AC’s because I have bars, and a portable seemed like a good solution.
This one had more bells and whistles than the 1210E but as far as cooling…
It does work and it will cool down a medium sized room but…
It didn’t work as fast as my previous Sunpentown 1210E.

My mother-in -law just moved into the top floor of an assisted living senior residence facility and it gets the afternoon sun. It must have gotten to 100 degrees plus in the room about 3pm to 8pm, until I got a Soleus MA_9000AH portable air conditioner on Craigslist.
I know the past posts say that it didn’t bring the ambient room temperature down below 82 degrees but, in my mother-in-laws case, bringing it down 20 degrees or more is making it tolerable for her.
The former owner of the Soleus 9000 insulated the exhaust hose so it doesn’t leach calories back into the room.

Just like the previous review, I have very similar problems.
I got this model about 10 months ago. I live in a 1 bedroom apt in San Jose , California. Last summer, it wasn’t that hot, so things kind of worked out ok. I am using it in my bedroom (15 x 17 feet). Even though the air conditional theoretically can cool all the way down to 63 degrees, I have never seen it go beyond 72 degrees ,that is if your average room temperature in your home (other rooms , excluding the room where the airconditioner is) is about 80 degrees.
So this year when the temperature outside soared to 105 degrees outside, this air conditioner was choking at 87 degrees inside the room. It couldn’t get any lower.
The only was I was able to survive was, I pointed the fan directly towards my bed so that the cold air hits me directly (wind chill factor, 
). But if I get up and move around in the room, I can see the difference in temperature- It’s higher around the sides and corners of the room.
Just like the previous reviewer said , the problem with the indoor units are that they cool the air , by sucking the air from the room and then pumping out the hot air outside, using the duct. This creates a suction in your room, which pulls air from the other rooms. So if your other rooms are at higher temperatures, it won’t be efficient at all.
Also the unit heats up after 8-10 hours of continous operation and shuts it’s compressor off. Then you need to turn it off for 1/2 hour to an hour for it to work again.
Well, I’m tired of apts. now for all these reasons. CAn’t change anything. Will have to move into a house with central a/c. I have no choice, because I can’t put in a window air conditioner in my apt. bedroom.
Also this unit is noisy ( > 54 db). Try to get something that is less than 50 or 49 db.

I bought this product for around $900, and then paid another $1200 to have it professionally installed by my licensed AC guy. It has never worked properly. After the AC guy left it cooled for about 15 minutes. Then it would stop. I immediately contacted the company but got no response back after leaving several messages. The AC guy came back and determined that the electric board was malfunctioning and he said Soleus should replace it. Beware: Dealing with Soleus customer “support” has been one of the worst consumer experiences of my life. Try to get someone on the phone… I dare you. Try to get a returned phone call or email. I’ve been trying to get this problem resolved for the past 3 months… Yes… 3 months to no avail. After month 2 I finally got someone willing to send a new board out. I almost laughed out loud when they wanted to charge me $10 for shipping after all I’d been through. I agreed to this shipping charges but it never came. Another month went by and I got on the phone again (mind you you can never just get someone on the phone… you have to leave a message and they call you back in a week or so if/when they feel like it). This is NOT a company concerned with customer satisfaction. I’d be surprised if this company isn’t going out of business soon. I’m ready to throw in the towel and buy a more reputable brand of A/C. But not before reporting this company to the BBB. I just wish this lesson wouldn’t have cost me over $2000.

The water bucket on this unit filled almost each hour for a large bedroom, then it shuts the ac off and the fan blows warm air, this defeating the whole purpose!!
Only get this if you have an easy way to drain the water outside and an easy way to get the exhaust vent tube outside also. I love the portability, but you may want to pay more for the kind with no water bucket. I originally bought this for a crank out window attic. Now I wish I would have ate the cost of installation, and installed a through the wall AC. Now I have to drill a hole through the wall to make a hole for the drain tube to go out the eavestroughs.
