Is it true that air conditioners take up less power than fans?

I heard that air conditioners take up less power from somebody. I’d like to know if it’s true or not because my dad complains about air conditioners taking up so much power, and it’d be great if i could prove him wrong. If not, oh well… I would just like some proof if this is true or not.
sorry, as an a/c man. i can tell you the fans draw much less power. in Florida an electric bill will jump once the summer hits immensely from running our a/c units. a few ceiling fans would have a much smaller impact. an a/c unit does so much more than move air. to do this, it uses a compressor which is where the bulk of the power draw comes from.
