Actually I received another floor A/C for Father’s Day, a Delonghi 8,500 BTU model from the local home super center. After letting it run all Sunday when it was cool outside (70-72F), it couldn’t keep up with solar heating of my workshop (800 sq ft) so back it went. I realized I needed something bigger and ordered the Fujitronic. I figured 13,000 BTU still might not be enough to keep my workshop a steady 72F in the dog days, but it should take the edge off and the humidity down.

I recently moved to the southern california area. As anyone who lives here knows, in this place, AC is a necessity. Summer temperatures are regularly in the 90s and 100s day after day. Upon moving into my new apartment, I discovered the 10 year old through the wall AC unit that came with the place couldn’t even cool off the living room with all the doors shut. Sad, really. It could only catch up well after sunset, when inside temps would finally get down to the 70s. It had to run 24/7 to keep it anywhere close to cool inside. I had three options:

Dear hangfire and alpacca,
I purchased the Fujitronic FA1300 Prtable Room A/C almost a month ago. I read the reviews prior to buying the machine and felt comfortable buying it. One reviewer said use on hose above 90, the other said no two hoses is OK. Two hoses is best and works best for many reasons. if you only use one hose then you bring air in from other parts of your home. if a window is open then you bring that outside air into your room. Bad if you have allergies.

We bought the Fujitronic FA-1300 as a backup emergency A/C. We are living in SW Florida, exposed to hurricanes for 5 months each year. After last year’s multiple hits we decided to prepare for comfortable survival. A window A/C is much cheaper but also much more difficult to handle if you plan for temporary use or for different rooms. Our setup consists of a mid-sized generator to keep the most important appliances going. With temperatures in the 90s and humidity above 70%, living without electric energy for over 4 weeks as it happened in 2004 to many people on our area is difficult and mold will settle in quickly.

Used 2 of these units to cool a third floor, 650 sq ft, 2 bdrm apt with vaulted ceilings in southern CA during 4 months of 90-105 degree daily weather - I was able to wear jeans and sweater most days with one unit on. The temperature was kept always under 75 degrees with the unit on even when it was 120 in the apartment with the unit off. However, you must leave it on around the clock to maximize coolness. With two units, one of our units leaked out the screws in the bottom. Contacted Fujitronic and they sent out people to pick them up for free repair, they brought them back after 3 days, one still leaked but they gave us free drip pans and better window kits that didn’t warp like the ones that originally came with these units. Overall, if you are in serious need of an air conditioner, these units WILL cool you off a great deal - but expect to place a pan underneath for dripping and expect to have the window kit warp - both problems can be corrected with a simple call to the manufacturer and they will send out better parts for free. I recommend these units to everyone simply because no other brand we have tried, and there have been many well known name brands, has cooled as well as these so the inconveniences are well worth it to have a cool home in the summer. Everything in life is a trade off, this is certainly a worthwhile one for us.

I ordered this air conditioner well in advance of the hottest period in the summer. I could not have known that it would be defective in so many ways that it would be useless. The thermostat was always off by at least 8 degrees. The water collector that is supposed to need emptying only once a season filled up every 2 hours. The machine would turn off when the water collector filled, so forget about getting a cool night’s sleep. The online merchant from whom I purchased the unit directed me to call the manufacturer. Surprisingly, the manufacturer agreed to ship me a new one. They assured me that I would receive it in about a week. Two weeks later when I called, it appeared that they never sent it out. After more hassling with them, they finally sent out a replacement. This one was even worse than the first. It draws a lot of electric current - I was popping circuit breakers left and right. It had the same thermostat and water issues as the first. The manufacturer never sent the return shipping label as promised repeatedly. I find it hard to believe that Fujitronics is in any way related to Fuji Industries - a quality Japanese company. I suspect that it is not, although I am not certain.
I have a similar unit, a Penguino which is Italian made. It works fine. I have also used portable a/c’s from Edgestar that also work fairly well.
This Fujitronics model is deceptive with its advanced appearing electronic features. The bottom line is that it is worthless. You will be better off with an electric fan - which is what I had to resort to this summer.

The dual tube technology on this portable air conditioner from Fujitronic provides more efficient cooling than that provided by most other portable air conditioners. Rather than cooling its compressor with already-cooled air from the room it is in , this portable air conditioner cools itself with air pulled from the outside. As an added bonus, this portable air conditioner has convertible dual tube technology. If you dont want to worry about hooking up both tubes, just hook up the exhaust - the portable air conditioner will run a bit less efficiently, but it will still cool just fine!
