Air Conditioners Tips

The SM24L30 Friedrich QuietMaster Programmable Air Conditioner is a solidly built unit. The 24,000 btu’s cools the entire house very well. I live in a center hall colonial type farmhouse that is over 150 years old (in other words the house isn’t insulated) and this single unit cools the entire top floor and all top floor rooms. Downstairs on a 95 degree day it will be no higher than 75 degrees. Remember, cool air is heavier than hot air so it drifts down the stairs nicely. In order for it to cool the entire house it must be set on the coolest setting (60 degrees). Your electric bill will reflect the extra energy consumption so be prepared. I am sure once the house is insulated it won’t require the 60 degree setting. Oh and about the 60 degree setting…. I used a digital thermometer and the top floor was at 60 degrees on the dot. To me their is nothing better than working outside in the heat and humidity and going inside to an ice cold home.
