Looks a lot better in person than the web or newspaper image. Kind of an amalgam of cheap parts with some surprisingly robust features. Did not like the cheap plastic lever that operates the fresh air vent, but it gets the job done. The filter is easy to access and easy to clean. The case is constructed of ‘hydrophilic’ coating that resists dirt and bacteria. And the cooling coils at the rear appear to be premium construction.

I purchased the Fujitronic FA1300 Prtable Room A/C almost a month ago. I read the reviews prior to buying the machine and felt comfortable buying it. One reviewer said use on hose above 90, the other said no two hoses is OK. Two hoses is best and works best for many reasons. if you only use one hose then you bring air in from other parts of your home. if a window is open then you bring that outside air into your room. Bad if you have allergies.

BUYING ADVICE
Stay away! Sharp really bungled this one.
FLAW #1 — LOUD
Unlike Sharp’s previous “Library Quiet” models, this unit’s fan is jet-engine loud.
FLAW #2 — BLINDINGLY BRIGHT
Even if you are hearing-impaired, still stay away! The unit’s construction is poor. Majority of the unit is bright white styrofoam. Sunlight shines through the unit during the day. And the styrofoam amplifies normal operating noises.

We have central heat, but not central air, so we rely on window units for air conditioning. Me, I’m a pretty hot natured person, so I like it a little cool in the house- and there was one a/c unit that needed replacing, so my husband broke down and bought the Haier Electronic Control Thru-Wall/ Window Air Conditioner, Model HWR12XC5, for $244 at Wal-Mart at the beginning of the summer, in May. It has 12,000 BTU, and measures about 23 inches long across the front, and about 15 inches tall on the front as well.
