EdgeStar AP410W Air Conditioner Review The best in the market!

Portable air conditioner indeed is convenient. However, they are usually bulky, underpowered units. BTUs usually do not reflect their true cooling ability - it usually feels much weaker than the numbers indicate.

Good thing is that higher BTU units do not have steeply higher price than lower BTU units, compared with other forms of air conditioners. It seems like at the time of this writing, the lowest BTU/price unit is in the neighborhood of $300-350 for a 7000BTU units. I can assure you, 7000 BTU portable units do NOT cool down your room. It blows cool air, but it does little to room temperature itself.

EdgeStar AP410W Air Conditioner Review Should have gone with another product

We finally caved in and went for a portable unit and specifically this unit given the very complimentary reviews on the seller’s website. Item arrived in a ok time frame from the time I ordered it (slightly under two weeks). Box looked fine, I thanked the delivery man and hurriedly opened it for use. Unit appeared slightly dirty, user manual looked like it was read over a couple of times, and the accessories seemed out of place. At that time I thought nothing of it, installed it (moderate difficulty)and started running it. Appeared to work fine and I was happy, packed up the box to put away. The shape of the unit itself was boxy but not too bad looking but is also quite wide in girth (about 15+”). The remote control was fun to have but you need to be very close or at the right angle for it to activate.

Fujitronic FA-1300 Portable Air Conditioner Review Overall nice portable A/C

We bought the Fujitronic FA-1300 as a backup emergency A/C. We are living in SW Florida, exposed to hurricanes for 5 months each year. After last year’s multiple hits we decided to prepare for comfortable survival. A window A/C is much cheaper but also much more difficult to handle if you plan for temporary use or for different rooms. Our setup consists of a mid-sized generator to keep the most important appliances going. With temperatures in the 90s and humidity above 70%, living without electric energy for over 4 weeks as it happened in 2004 to many people on our area is difficult and mold will settle in quickly.

Royal Sovereign ARP-900DE Portable Air Conditioner Review Quite a piece of ____.

I bought this model from Costco. This was during a heat wave so maybe just maybe that’s why this air conditioner wasn’t functioning properly. My room is 100 square feet which isn’t much. Installation was easy and the instructions were helpful. No problems there. Then I turned it on. The compressor is a loud one, definitely over 50 db. Even on “low” the loudness remained. I closed my window, shut my door, and waited a good 45 minutes until returning. When I opened my door, I was greeted with warm air. Not even room temperature, WARM. I went up close to it to make sure it was functioning and it was. The air coming out was really cold.

Fujitronic FA-1310S Portable Air Conditioner Review air conditioner from hell

I ordered this air conditioner well in advance of the hottest period in the summer. I could not have known that it would be defective in so many ways that it would be useless. The thermostat was always off by at least 8 degrees. The water collector that is supposed to need emptying only once a season filled up every 2 hours. The machine would turn off when the water collector filled, so forget about getting a cool night’s sleep. The online merchant from whom I purchased the unit directed me to call the manufacturer. Surprisingly, the manufacturer agreed to ship me a new one. They assured me that I would receive it in about a week. Two weeks later when I called, it appeared that they never sent it out. After more hassling with them, they finally sent out a replacement. This one was even worse than the first. It draws a lot of electric current - I was popping circuit breakers left and right. It had the same thermostat and water issues as the first. The manufacturer never sent the return shipping label as promised repeatedly. I find it hard to believe that Fujitronics is in any way related to Fuji Industries - a quality Japanese company. I suspect that it is not, although I am not certain.

I have a similar unit, a Penguino which is Italian made. It works fine. I have also used portable a/c’s from Edgestar that also work fairly well.

This Fujitronics model is deceptive with its advanced appearing electronic features. The bottom line is that it is worthless. You will be better off with an electric fan - which is what I had to resort to this summer.

EdgeStar AP410HS Air Conditioner Review Our Edgestar experience

We aren’t real happy with our experience with this product and it’s manufacturer. Our first problem was dealing with the exhaust hose. Finding a window to use wasn’t possible, so we had to make a hole in a wall. The hose stretches 5 feet maximum, so it made the location limited. It was cooling quite well, but I was reminded that it needed to be drained periodically. The unit is 70 pounds heavy, and tilting it over to drain every few hours wasn’t my idea of staying cooled off. Then we noticed that it was leaking onto the carpet in our living room. Finally found it was bad seals/rivets on the bottom of the unit, near the water reservoir. That was enough for us, it was still within the warranty period, so we called it in, and after several emails/phone calls, bugged them into sending us a shipping label so we could send it back to them free of charge. Keep in mind we purchased it online via epinions and one of their advertisers, Compact Appliance dot com. The unit shipped via UPS, and I was able to track it online. It shipped on a Thursday (from Washington state) and arrived in the suburbs of Dallas, TX on the following Tuesday. I sent an email after seeing that it had arrived, asking when we’d know what was up with it. Someone responded from their customer service saying that they would inspect it and act accordingly. Two weeks and several days later, no action. Made a phone call or 2 or 3, and after another week or so, found out that it had been sitting somewhere in the “warehouse”, waiting to be shipped. Uh huh, so you say we thought. To make a long story longer, they shipped a new one back to us, just in time for summer to be completely over with here in the wet, gray, and rainy Northwest. Perhaps it’ll do the job for us next summer, or perhaps we got ripped for 471 bucks and change. Hope this helps ya!

EdgeStar AP450Z Air Conditioner Review Plain disappointing

I have used this for a few days and have quickly come to realize it is a real piece of work. This a/c unit is does not cool period. I am a mechanic and have some working knowledge of machines. I think it was designed as a originally designed cooler/fan type device but definitely not an air conditioner. I turned it on for close to 6 hours in a modest sized living area and the temperature was probably 2 to 3 degrees cooler at most. I was also not able to notice any difference in the quality of the air, so who knows if the purifier claim has any validity. I called customer service at the retailer and the distributor and received spotty information and basically nonsensical ramblings about how I could correct the problem I was having. The moment I demanded a refund, attitudes changed 180 to pure unpleasantness. They gave me the whole song and dance about how I was the only customer to have such a problem and that they have sold countless units with no problems. I purchased the unit based on the “reviews” on their website, which, if you pay close attention shamelessly promotes this Edgestar brand more than any others. I feel like I was just suckered.
