We bought this for our bedroom for the occasional hot and humid night. The first unit arrived with a cracked front panel, so a new one was sent by air-n-water.com.
The digital temperature readout is nice and fairly accurate. It reads within a few degrees of a thermostat across the room. You can set the temperature and let it go, and can set start and stop times. It’s a little bit noisy, but probably no noisier than a window air conditioner unit.
The automatic water exhaust system is a joke. I’m sure some of the water collected gets exhausted out of the window as steam, but there’s a drain port at the bottom of the unit for those ‘extremely humid days’. The basin holds maybe a few pints of water, and if it fills up, it ends up spilling onto the floor. There’s no automatic shutoff! So how do you know if it’s one of those days when you need to use the drain? You don’t, until your floor is wet. The bad design here is that the drain plug is about 2 inches of the floor, so the only thing you can drain into is a shallow pan, or lift the unit off the floor and drain in to a bucket.
We ended up using the unit elsewhere as a humidifier, which helps cool as well. A hose drained the unit into a bucket and on humid days, maybe 2 or 3 gallons of water would collect in the bucket.
The remote control is somewhat useful, but doesn’t seem to have a great range, and you have to point it directly at the front of the unit. It seems to talk back and forth with the unit so that it knows what temperature the unit sees.
The intake/exhaust hoses are fairly cumbersome and the unit as a whole is heavy, maybe 60lbs, so lugging it up and down stairs isn’t simple. You have to have it close to a window or else these 2 huge tubes will snake across the room, and the longer they’re extended, the noisier it will be in the room.
