Royal Sovereign ARP-900DE Portable Air Conditioner Review It does what I bought it to do I live in an older apartment and the air conditioning goes out fairly regularly. Living in the south, it can get p...

I bought this model from Costco. This was during a heat wave so maybe just maybe that’s why this air conditioner wasn’t functioning properly. My room is 100 square feet which isn’t much. Installation was easy and the instructions were helpful. No problems there. Then I turned it on. The compressor is a loud one, definitely over 50 db. Even on “low” the loudness remained. I closed my window, shut my door, and waited a good 45 minutes until returning. When I opened my door, I was greeted with warm air. Not even room temperature, WARM. I went up close to it to make sure it was functioning and it was. The air coming out was really cold.

The problem with this air conditioner is that you have to remain directly in front of it to feel cool. But you can never feel 100% cool, there WILL be a part of your body that’s not feeling the air, unless you’re a small baby. It doesn’t cool the whole room, this is a fact. It doesn’t really do much of anything. I returned it a few days later (I gave it many chances) and Costco gave me my money back right away, no hassle.

A month later (after doing my research which you should always do), I decided to go with an Edgestar portable air conditioner (Model AP310SS). This unit works great, it cools my whole room down. It looks great too, it’s black and silver, doesn’t look like Royal Sov’s R2D2. Edgestar uses Japanese parts which are apparently more pricey then Chinese parts (talking about the compressor and fan), so you get quality.

ALSO!!! For those who are obsessed with quiet air conditioners, look for the Sharp CV-P09FX . It’s the quietest portable unit on the market. I would buy it but it’s too pricey for me (it’s like $450 - $500 w/out shipping). The Edgestar was $340 including shipping and tax.
