I live in an older apartment and the air conditioning goes out fairly regularly. Living in the south, it can get pretty uncomfortable. I wanted a unit I could use for those occasions, and also, since I spend most of my time in one room, to be able to use it and turn off the central air to save on my electric bill.

The pros:

1. It does do what I bought it to do. It cools my 12×14 room even on hot days. It will not efficiently cool a much larger space, though.

2. The remote control is handy.

3. It is easy to install.

The cons:

1. It’s pretty loud. I kind of like the white noise while I’m sleeping, but during the daytime it can be annoying.

2. The piece that goes into the window is kind of flimsy and lots of air leaks around it. My electric bills aren’t lower, even if I just cool the one room. They may be somewhat higher.

3. The cooling power seems somewhat inconsistent and I can’t figure out why. On one night I’ll be a little warm and another similar night with the unit set to the same temperature, I’ll be shivering under piles of blankets before my husband turns it off.

If I had to do it again I would probably spend more time on epinions before making my purchase. It does do the job, but there are probably better options.
