There is only one way to stay cool in the hot humid climate we live in and that is to have good air conditioning in the home. We have central air though our whole house,but we added a room onto our back patio. The room has 8 windows it is very beautiful. The room was built for my own private quiet place. When you shut the door I can not hear anything else. Perfect except it gets too hot in the afternoon so I bought a Goldstar Room Air Conditioner . We had to have a hole cut in the wall to have it installed, because I did not want to use one of the windows. The Goldstar is approximately 12 inches long by 18 1/2 inches wide. It fits wonderful and it looks OK.

I bought the air conditioner at Home Depot and I paid $120.00 for the unit. I needed one that would be able to cool this room. The unit cools a 16′ X 12′ room. The unit has no problem cooling this small room. I have had this air conditioner for well over a year and have had no problems.

The Controls consist of:

1. Temperature Setting This can be set from a range of 60 degrees to 86 degrees. I like to keep it set in the 70’s. It automatically turns off so I can save money when it reaches the temperature I set it at.

2. Temp This is a good feature and makes this air conditioner an energy saver.The fan will stop when the compressor stops cooling.

3. Energy Saver every time you push this button it will toggle by using cool, dry, and fan.

4. Mode The mode is dry, fan, and cool, each press of the button will cycle through the options.

5. On/Off Timer stops operation of the air conditioner.

6. Fan Speed and Power To turn the unit on,I just push the button.The fan speed will toggle between Low and High speeds.

The Goldstar GWHD6500R comes with its own remote control. This is a very handy feature. I like this when I’m watching TV I don’t have to get up if I want to change the temperature on the air conditioner. The remote works good as long as there are no obstacles between the remote controller and the air conditioner. You will need 2 batteries for the remote that uses standard batteries. I believe they are triple A.

Cleaning the air conditioner requires me to check the air filter at least twice a month. All I have to do is wash the filter with warn water and shake out the excess water and replace the filter. I use soap and water to clean the front and it is pretty much done. To make sure the air conditioner is running at peak efficiency, I have to check the condenser coils(located outside the unit) and clean if they are dirty. This is very simple to do. I use soap and water when I need to clean the air conditioner.

The GoldStar GWHD6500R comes with a one year warranty from the date of purchase. This warranty covers parts and labor,however the compressor is covered from the date of purchase for 5 years.

The Goldstar GWHD6500R Air Conditioner is a little noisy. It is noisy but not so noisy that I can’t hear the TV. I’ll put up with this noise in exchange for this room with cool relaxing air.

Overall, this air conditioner has been a very positive experience. I like to keep the back porch on our house air conditioned because it dehumidifies the air, this cuts down on mold and mildew. Also it filters the air which cuts down the pollen count. Our little Gold Star does a fine job of both. I would have to say this air conditioner is well worth the money, it is very reasonable in the price. I would recommend this air conditioner to everyone. Thank you for reading.
