Ok, when I told my wife I wanted to spend $300 on a “gadget”, she nearly flipped. This isn’t an iPod, this is a vacuum!. We had just listed our house, and it was difficult to keep it clean with 6 kids. I actually wanted to buy it as a joke, and had fully planned to return it unused, as it was a “way too expensive toy”.
When I opened it to have a look, and decided to charge it up and give it a whirl, to see just how badly I wasted $300 - we were completely suprised!.
This thing actually WORKS!. It works great. My wife has named it “Rosey” after the robot on the Jetsons. She run’s Rosey every day, upstairs, downstairs, everywhere. She loves Rosey, our regular vacuum just saw the light of day last week when cleaning up powder from cutting tile and drywall flakes turned out to be too much for her.
She whirls, she twists, she turns, she bumps into things, and she never falls off the stairs.
As far as a vacuum goes, she’s good for about 80-85% of the vacuuming. You’ll still need a vac to get into corners, and down deep into the carpet, but for day to day??… She ROCKS!.
Just scan the room for obvious areas she may get stuck, which are few, and press “Clean”, then you’re free to do whatever you want, or just leave. She’ll find her battery kit or just finish the job and shut off on her own.
The robot needs a charge when you get it, but not long, a few hours if I remember. It included a replacement brush (which we havn’t used yet) and a small “comb” designed for cleaning the brush.
The capacity is not much at all, but if you empty it before a run, you won’t have any problems. It hoilds about 2 cups of dirt. To empty it, all you do is hold the unit over a garbage can, and pull the cup-like cover off the nose, all the dirt will fall out. There’s also a filter to pull out (it’s yellow) and that cleans simply as well, it’s a 2-second thing.
I’ve only had to “comb” it a couple of times, to get pet hair and string out of it. The comb has a handy little knife thing like a box cutter in it, makes cutting out tangled string a snap. She doesn’t do tassles well, but she doesn’t get so tangled you have to tear it out either.
She’ll get hung up on floor lenght drapery laying on the floor, she navigates hard floor to rug to hard floor again pretty well, but 10-15% of the time she’ll get stuck in the transition. Cords can be trouble too.
It comes with “virtual walls”, which are little “D” battery units that send off a “beam” that Rosey won’t cross. thier very handy for keeping the vac in a particular area, or stopping her from going room to room, or keeing her out from under a bed. There are (2) included, and you can buy more from iRobot. You will need to go buy the “D” batteries though.
She runs for an hour or so on a charge, and will re-charge in just an hour more. It’s fine for a room or two today, a room or two tomorrow. The dogs didn’t like her at first, but they’re OK with her now.
My only regret is that I really didn’t need the scheduler model, because I never use the remote. I could have saved a little $$.
Hope this helps!
