I bought this unit to cool my 10′x10′ bedroom in summertime.

I love its simple controls and rheostat timer and its automatic moisture exhaust feature, but it’s not very powerful despite the 9,000 btu rating. It was adequate for my sleeping comfort on hot evenings. It has a unique moisture-exhaust technology for venting the water condensation with the hot-air exhaust, and does not require a drip-bucket.

I’ve had this air conditioner for three years now, and it’s held up very well, and keeps my small studio apartment cooled throughout. It’s a lifesaver if you can’t use a window air conditioner. When I first bought it, the tube part that attaches to the window is painfully short and doesn’t quite make it to the window level, so I had to buy a plastic tube that’s meant for dryers to use in it’s place. I did call the customer service to see if they could sell me a tube, but they were completely useless. I haven’t had any problems with leaks and haven’t had to replace any parts.

At only $399.00, the Haier HPAC9M is an excellent value for the money. Most portable air conditioners cost a lot more. Free of most of the electronic gimmickry that is common on most portable, the Haier does just what it is intended to do. It cools. Understand that none of the portable models cool as well as window units do. When a window unit works, it generates heat outside the window. The portables vent heat through ducting which, unfortunately, emits a certain amount of heat even as it is doing its job. This is the nature of the beast. One area where Haier could have done better is the design of the cooling vent which is only somewhat adjustable.

What makes the Haier a quality unit? It is easy to use. It is not too noisy. The thermostat really works.

I’ve used it for a month now, and I haven’t had the need to adjust the settings or turn it off.

This is a fine unit, overall, much better than a few of the other portable brands I’ve had experience with.

I’ve had my Haier AC unit for a couple of months and it now leaks water. Their customer service department is almost non existant. I think I’ve made a mistake.

I actually did not buy my HPAC9M…I found it on the street outside my apartment building. People throw away almost anything here in NY, NY. Having a backgound in AC repair I rolled it inside and checked it out–I plugged it in and found that it wasn’t cooling so well. Being the AC guy that I am (was)..I took it apart and found the coils (condenser and evaporator) very dirty. I fixed this with one of the AC repair techs best tools…the water hose. After rolling it inside (mine has rollers…don’t know if this is standard or not…but very nice) I plugged it in and it works great.

Having seen a great many AC designs in my years I can say that this Haier AC is a good design with quality components. I was a bit suprised as to the price…but it seems worth it if you can’t install a window unit for whatever reason.

This is the 3rd year in a row that my unit has lost all its Freon - hairline leaks in the tubing. The first time, it was covered by warranty(within a week of using it for the first time). When the warranty expired in the 2nd year, I called Haier for suggested repair places for Haier products. They could not provide any leads. I was told to look in my phone book (None note Haier products).

Anyone who buys a HAIER product deserves what they get - pure JUNK. Even when it “worked” the cooling capacity was POOR at best. At $200 a repair, next time it’s the trash heap. It’s been a very expensive learning experience for my first (and last) Haier product.

Purchased this Chinese manufactured portable air conditioner last season. While the unit has proved reliable and operates fairly quietly it is certainly NOT an efficient 9000 BTU unit. It replaced a window mounted 5000 BTU Fedders A/C and the old little unit provided FAR more cooling than this supposedly larger air conditioner.

It is NOT energy efficient and doesn’t cool very well but if you want the convenience of a portable unit, it will give you that.

i bought two of these so called 9000 BTU portable air conditioners at best buy . they both cooled much akin to a 4000 BTU machine and made objectionable noise. i had a 10,000 window unit in the same room that would cool 4 degrees an hour. the Haier HPAC9M Air Conditioner would cool about one degree an hour with same outside temperature. the hair had a vent cooling temp of 66 degrees while the window unit was 50 degrees.

many Haier machines cool poorly. best buy would not fix or do anything about it at their service center.

both were sent back to the factory for warranty service and BOTH had an INTERNAL COMPRESSOR LEAK one was repaired and the other was replaced as not repairable .

don’t buy this make and model without testing in an 80 degree room to see if the vent temp is 55 degrees or less. TAKE A THERMOMETER . listen for objectionable noise. the vent temp on the repaired machine is 50 degrees. the repaired machine is very quiet.

note many other complaints on this machine. all appear due to internal compressor leaks. send it back to the factory immediately .
