Good value for the price Frigidaire FAA065P7A Thru Wall/Window Air Conditioner

Frigidaire FAA065P7A Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner

Installation

The unit is rather heavy, around 50 lbs. I highly recommend that two people install the unit. We had a few difficulties with the installation because we do not have simple double hung windows; like many older apartment building in New York, there is a elevated ‘lip’ so the unit is not resting directly on the window sill . The placement of the unit on the elevated lip was a little precarious at first, but we were able to stabilize the back end of the unit (the portion that rest outdoor)s by propping it up with some wooden blocks. The sliding panels are a little flimsy but seems to do the job. The installation guide is simple enough to follow, but the photographs provided are a little difficult to decipher. No special tools besides a Phillips screw driver was needed, however please note that if you need to drill pilot holes, you will require the use of an electric drill.

Amana AC083E Air Conditioner

The Story:

My old clunky Amana air conditioner died at the most inopportune time last weekend, as most air conditioners seem to do. Over 95 degrees with oppressive humidity. It was a few years old

and even in its prime was under whelming in performance. The entire family decided, never ever another Amana.

In sweltering heat, research was done on every low cost air conditioner in every nearby store. As we are on a budget what we needed was an 8,000 BTU window unit willing to work overtime at a meager energy cost with outstanding results.

The Amcor is just too darn cool! Amcor AF9000E Portable Air Conditioner

The Amcor Portable Air Conditioner

My wife and I got new windows for our house last year. And with that, didn’t want to put some clunky, heavy, window mounted air conditioner in them, so that they can rattle around all summer, decreasing the stability of our new windows/frames. So, with that, we decided to look at the portable models.

Excellent cooling, extremely quiet, sleek design Sharp CVP12LX Portable Air Conditioner

Sharp CVP12LX Portable Air Conditioner

After reading reviews here and other online sites, I chose this Sharp portable AC over Soleus or Delonghi. I brought it home the first day of a 100 degree heat wave (in CA) and got it set up in 15 minutes. It is heavy so I required help to get it into and out of the car, but the crate was easy to unpack because once the plastic ties are removed, the top of the box slides off and you simply roll the unit off the box bottom. The casters roll easily even over the threshold, I had no problems positioning it where I wanted it. The unit looks very sleek and blends into the room.

Works great for cooling small rooms Windchaser SC7DLX Air Conditioner

Windchaser SC7DLX Air Conditioner

I got it because my place isn’t set up very well for the portable A/C units that require you run an exhaust hose through a window, and my electrical circuits just aren’t optimized for units that run at 10-15A in my main rooms.

The white tube on the top that blows the A/C air can be flexed and swiveled in any direction you want. The fan you see in the picture is the warm air exhaust vent (intake is on the opposite side). You can route the warm exhaust pretty much any direction you want (obviously you should point it in the opposite direction you want the cold air).

Ahh, the sounds of water inside my window Haier HWR05XC7 Thru Wall/Window Air Conditioner

Haier HWR05XC7 Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner

I purchased this Haier air conditioner last week and installed it right away. With this 90 degree weather and 85% humidity, we needed it! We purchased it to cool off a room about 9×9, and a bathroom which is around 6×6. It did in fact, cool off both rooms quite nicely.

How it works:

Good price/performance in the low BTU class Amana AP076E Portable Air Conditioner

Amana AP076E Portable Air Conditioner

I live in Mountain View, CA, which is not usually very hot. However, I run a small Linux cluster (5 machines), and I need spot cooling. My window opens to the side, so the conventional window units were not applicable. Also, I wanted the luxury to move the unit into my daughter’s room on really hot days.

The unit was purchased at Fry’s Electronics. To my knowledge, it was the only unit in the 7000 BTU class, which is designed for single room use. The unit weighs about 70 pounds and can be moved fairly easily on its casters, even over carpet. The controls are simple and easy to master. The hot air vents from the rear of the unit, through a provided dryer duct. An adjustable window mount affixes the duct to the window.

LG Electronics 11,500 BTU Window Air Conditioner LG LWHD1200FR Thru Wall/Window Air Conditioner

LG LWHD1200FR Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner

I just installed this unit a couple days ago (6/28/08) and I am totally satisfied with it. I live in Houston and the temps are in the high nineties. This unit was to cool and dry the air in my garage as I have a couple of collector cars in there, and it is impossible to do any work on them in the sweltering heat. I wish I had done this many years ago.
