Window air conditioners?
Do they have kits to extend the side curtains for window air conditioners?
Yes, but you can make some from plywood which will hold up better than the plastic ones they sell.

Has anyone here used one of those portable air conditioners that can be moved from room to room? I see them advertised that the only installation is putting a hose through a window. I was wondering if these machines really work the way the advertiser say.
My daughter just bought one from Wal*Mart. It is very efficient and she has kept her house quite cool with it. This has been a welcome relief with a new baby in the house. You don't have to crank it to the coldest setting, either to get relief. The first setting is comfortable. Good value for your dollar

How do air conditioners work?
I want details please
PV=nRT
The basic rule for gases says if you can manipulate the volume and pressure of a gas to lower the temperature. Air conditioners use this principle with freon gas. When you change the volume (by moving a piston), you can lower the temperature, and cool things like houses.

Does anyone have any information or knowledge about how to get free or low cost air conditioners for seniors in California?
If you want to talk to real people –who are familiar with services that can help seniors–especially those who are in the low-income ranges– are good at listening and at cutting through red tape, I would highly recommend that you connect with your local Area Agency on Aging.

does any company make an air conditioner that can sit on the floor in the middle of the room? I dont want one that goes in the window
A company named Fedders. Sells several units they can be found on-line or at a Home depot store.
Also Royal Sovereign Has some they are on-line or at sears stores.
They do make them and there are several to choose from but they are expensive $300.00 to $500.00

I want to buy a window air conditioner but I can not decide which one. What do you think about Kenmore? This is one of the Sears brands, but who is the manufacture of Kenmore air conditioners (Whirlpool, Panasonic, Electrolux, etc.)?
Kenmore is its own brand. Kenmore has a marketing contract with Sears, same as Craftsman.

We have a really small apartment (900 sq ft) and it faces south/west (maximum sun exposure). The building does not have air conditioning and the windows are not desigend to support standard window mounted air conditioners.
We are nervous to buy a portable air conditioner. I read consumer reports and they gave portable air conditioners very poor ratings.
Have you tried them and do they work? If you have had a positive experience, which one would you recommend?
I have 2 portables in my apartment and they keep the whole place cool in the summer…….My apartment is HUGE and has 3 bedrooms……..I love the A/C’s and recommend them to anyone…..We bought 2 cheap ones 5 years ago from WalMart and they are still working great!!!! Good Luck and stop sweating….LOL

Why do air cooled Air conditioners perform better in humid weather is it from the condenser side better performance or evaporator side
Could you expand your question some? Seems to be some confusion on what you are actually asking.
Edit: Thanks for expansion, although still not sure whether you are talking about a commercial unit or just a house a/c like Chef D assumes. I'll assume the same, and just make a few comments which hope might help.
Refrigerated systems obviously perform better in humid air than evaporative coolers since evaporative cooling decreases at higher humidities.

We have long tall wide windows in our living room and dining room, so we can’t put air conditioners in them
It’s so hot in our house. We have 3 bedrooms and three air conditioners for those rooms but I dont wanna spend the whole summer in the bedroom to stay cool. It may be a crazy question, but do they have any new air conditioners out that you don’t need to put in a window? like to just set aside somewhere????
Here, check this out…
