The SM24L30 Friedrich QuietMaster Programmable Air Conditioner is a solidly built unit. The 24,000 btu’s cools the entire house very well. I live in a center hall colonial type farmhouse that is over 150 years old (in other words the house isn’t insulated) and this single unit cools the entire top floor and all top floor rooms. Downstairs on a 95 degree day it will be no higher than 75 degrees. Remember, cool air is heavier than hot air so it drifts down the stairs nicely. In order for it to cool the entire house it must be set on the coolest setting (60 degrees). Your electric bill will reflect the extra energy consumption so be prepared. I am sure once the house is insulated it won’t require the 60 degree setting. Oh and about the 60 degree setting…. I used a digital thermometer and the top floor was at 60 degrees on the dot. To me their is nothing better than working outside in the heat and humidity and going inside to an ice cold home.

I purchased this model on EBAY and am extremely pleased. It effectively cools most of my small two bedroom apartment. Along with the use of a couple cheap fans to push the cool air along from the living room to the kitchen and bedrooms, it provides a nice, cool indoor experience for hot summers in Los Angeles.
The window vent and hose is easy to install, however it can get knocked out of the window by an active small child. If you use the hardware given, be sure to keep the area child free or else keep a close eye on it.

There is only one way to stay cool in the hot humid climate we live in and that is to have good air conditioning in the home. We have central air though our whole house,but we added a room onto our back patio. The room has 8 windows it is very beautiful. The room was built for my own private quiet place. When you shut the door I can not hear anything else. Perfect except it gets too hot in the afternoon so I bought a Goldstar Room Air Conditioner . We had to have a hole cut in the wall to have it installed, because I did not want to use one of the windows. The Goldstar is approximately 12 inches long by 18 1/2 inches wide. It fits wonderful and it looks OK.

I have lived in western Washington going on 30 years. Most people do not have air conditioning because the climate does not make it necessary. Puget Sound with its cool water temperature is large enough that it has a major effect on our temperatures. It can get hot in the summer during the day but will usually cool down enough in the evening that sleeping at night is pretty comfortable.
There can be up to a couple of weeks when the nights just don’t cool enough and this year I decided to prepare for them.

I bought this unit from circuitcity.com a couple months ago and when I got it everything seemed ok, until I set it up and turned it on…
First time I turned it on it made really loud noises, like all the parts inside were being crunched up. It went away after a few seconds, so I didn’t think much of it. After about an hour or so the unit started making really loud annoying noises which I can only describe as a super loud blender. This noise would repeat itself every few seconds, making my dog go crazy and forcing me to shut it off. All through this the unit cooled down my room only about one degree.

We purchased this air conditioner about 2 years ago and have not regretted it once! This thing has been running (almost constantly) for the past 2 years and we’ve never had any problems with it. It heats and cools (which is great) our entire upstairs (about 900 square feet, 3 rooms) very well. Our home is two story and we needed something upstairs to help with our HVAC b/c the central one isn’t working too well. To be honest, we never even run our central unit, we stick with this window unit because it’s MUCH cheaper to run.

I bought this unit from Lowe’s for a little over $200. It was purchased for supplemental bedroom cooling as I need near freezing temperatures to get a good night sleep. Usually when I consider an appliance purchase, I look at the cost, features, warranty, operating costs. Based on those factors, and after comparing this unit with a similar Whirlpool unit, I settled on the Samsung with the warranty being the deal closer. I determined the appropriate BTU’s based on my room size and the literature from Lowes then chose the next higher recommended unit just to be sure I had my room cooling needs covered. The first week I used this, temperatures at 10pm were hovering around 90* but this unit was still able to do the job well. I love the quiet “white noise” this unit makes and the timer features although limited, are handy.
